History:
Founded in 1998 by Jeff and Megan Meyers (brother/sister), as a small
gourmet foods company. The company goal at the time was to create a line
of high quality/gourmet salsas and Bloody Mary Mixes. The first facility
was a 500sq.ft. FDA approved plant located in a remodeled garage behind
their parent’s house. As it worked out the Bloody Mary market was
accessed first and led us to design and formulate a complete line of
non-alcoholic cocktail mixes sold locally in state run Liquor Stores,
while the salsa portion of the business was set aside. Side Pocket Corp.
moved to its current location in February 2001. At first only 5,000sq.ft.
of the 50,000sq.ft. was utilized, until securing a statewide distributor
for the line of mixers.
In 2003 Side Pocket Corp began contracted bottling for companies like
Baja Bob’s Sugar Free Cocktail Mix, and others throughout the USA.
By June of 2004 production reached 1,300 cases of finished goods per
day. Entering into the Distilled Spirits industry was a natural next
Step, we felt it would go hand in hand with our current line of products.
In August of 2004 we applied for our Distilled Spirits Plant license,
an extremely difficult and hard to obtain license. Bill, father of Jeff
and Megan spear-headed the effort, working non-stop to insure success
for the company, often calling on not only the regional director of the
Trade and Tax Bureau in Cincinnati, OH, But also the head of the TTB
in Washington DC.
In the end we received our DSP license in a record setting 62 days, including
weekends and holidays. This was, and still is the fastest license to
be issued by the TTB/ATF in their 200-year history. While there are less
than 300 Distilled Spirit Bottling Plants in the US, Side Pocket Corp
is one of only a handful allowed to bottle both Spirits and non-alcoholic
products on the same filling machines.
By early 2005 we became even more unique by applying for and receiving
our Denatured Alcohol Manufacturing license, allowing us to do such products
as Charcoal Fire Starter and Hand Sanitizers made from grain alcohol
that is denatured in our facility. Also in 2005 we released our first
Distilled Spirits, Lubrication Premium Vodka and Octane Premium 100 Proof
Vodka, while continuing private label non-alcoholic bottling and design
of Spirits products to come.
2006 was a break-out year for us in terms of products introduced. We
launched Exit 172, Etiqueta Privada, Chick Food Premium Schnapps, Vixen
Rum, and increased the Octane line to include 100 proof Tequila, Whiskey,
and Gin. By June 2006 we had expanded through the entire 50,000sq.ft.
facility we occupy, by adding a second bottling line allowing for 2,600
cases of finished products per day. We also increased our bulk spirits
storage to 20,000 gallons and purchased our own semi truck with a 6,800-gallon
stainless steel tanker for spirit transportation.
January 2007 has the makings of a great year. Side Pocket Corp. has purchased
the 50,000sq.ft. facility we occupy along with 3.8 industrial zoned acres,
2 acres of paved truck parking and begun the foundation construction
of a 40,000sq.ft. addition adjacent to our building.
Expansion plans are in place and by summer 2007 we hope to have
a 90,000sq.ft. facility complete with 4 bottling lines with a combined
output of 5,000 finished cases per shift, 100,000 gallons of secure bulk
Spirit storage, 50,000sq.ft. of secure warehouse, 8 shipping and receiving
docks, tasting room and retail store, along with larger offices for purchasing
and sales.
